St. Davids Fort

St. Davids Fort at Cuddalore was built by Dutch with permission from Senji Nayak Krishnappa Nayakar in 1606. But he was put under pressure by Portuguese, so the fort was taken back. It came under the control of Marathas in 1677. During the Mughal siege, Shivaji’s son Rajaram Chhatrapati sold it to British for highest bid at 1690. At the time while British bought this fort, they fired a canon to get land till the distance that the canon ball went, so that when they fire canons in war time it could be useful, but still that was not fair. the villages where the canon is called cannon ball villages. St. Davids’s fort was actually named after Welsh saint, this action was done by British governor of madras Yilhu Yale. 35 after getting this fort they strengthened this fort and made it as a governor office of Madras Presidency. After 1 year the British India government switched from St. Georges fort to St. Davids fort. When the French took over St. George Fort in Madras, the British used this fort as their capital for southern regions. But now this fort is abandoned many people don’t know about this important fort so please go and watch this fort, it is very important if you have seen this fort, please comment me.
